ABOUT THIS TALK

The presentation will provide information on how the eggshell and the developing extra-embryonic components impact the ability of the embryo to breath during development and metabolize the nutrients the hen placed into the egg.

What you will learn:

The eggshell is a barrier to gas exchange between the embryo and the incubational environment that the egg is in will influence development. Oxygen availability impacts the production of energy by the embryo for proper development of organ systems needed for optimal performance in the field.

1. You will understand that the ability for gas exchange is different for different breeds.

2. You will understand how incubator conditions (temperature, relative humidity, turning and ventilation) and hallway conditions can influence oxygen availability for the embryo.

3. You will learn some of the symptoms seen in embryo diagnosis because of an oxygen deficit.
